Several IBM units have been involved in the project, including IBM e-business Services, IBM Corporate Internet Programs, IBM Global Services, and Lotus. Technology

IBM powers the TryScience website utilizing IBM's leading Web technologies while drawing on the knowledge and expertise of several IBM e-business service and solutions organizations.

The TryScience website uses IBM HotMedia for multimedia, IBM WebSphere Application Server for user polls and live Web cams, Lotus Domino for the site application software and bulletin board functions, and Java and JavaScript, and Dynamic HTML. The TryScience.net collaboration system uses Lotus SameTime software.

Located at the New York Hall of Science, the TryScience team develops and publishes content using IBM's e-Publishing software, manages the global server complex, and also coordinates the numerous other tasks it takes to bring you theTryScience site. Also powering TryScience from the New York Hall of Science are IBM Netfinity servers, Personal Computers, and ThinkPads, which are interconnected using the latest high-speed technology to form the virtual editorial room.

The TryScience site is served to its World Wide Web audience from a "farm" of RS/6000 servers located at the IBM Global Services, Services Delivery site in Boulder, Colorado, USA. This infrastructure uses IBM's AIX platform and has been designed to provide a secure, scaleable, and flexible environment, which makes it possible for the TryScience website to support millions of "hits" each day.

IBM Global Services, e-business Services Delivery, provides Web application and networking infrastructure, along with webmasters and system administration teams. IBM Global Services, e-business Services Development, provides overall project management, graphic design, publishing system design and programming, Lotus Domino programming, systems administration, webcam integration programming, and application development.
